Ayurveda is world known system of medicine that allows people to have healthier body using the principles of nature. Panchamahabhutas - Five Basic Elements
According to Ayurveda, everything in the universe is composed of 5 basic elements: the wind (Vayu), fire (Agni), Water (Jal), earth (Prithvi) and space or ether (Akash). These 5 elements together are known as Panchamahabhutas.
These Panchmahabutas are present in every living or non-living being, materials, substance and objects existing in this universe. Imbalance in one or more of these 5 elements in the body will result in disease related to that particular element or elements, which are causing the imbalance.
For example, bone tissues are primarily made of Prithvi (earth) element and when there is an imbalance in this element, it results in bone related diseases like arthritis. The Ayurvedic health treatment is mainly based on correcting these 5 elements (Panchamahabhuta) balance in the body.
Ayurvedic Body Types
The science of Ayurveda is built on the principles of three doshas (energy): Vata, Pitta, and Kapha. These three doshas or energies are present in everyone and everything existing in the world. These combine to form different types of food, climates, species and so on.
In the human body, the particular proportion of these three doshas influences the individual’s emotional, mental and psychical character traits.
