BIBHITAKI (Belleric myrobalan)
This is a tree that grows up to a height of 60 to 80 feets.bibhitaki is one of the important fruit which is used in an important formulation called Triphala. Its botanical name is Terminalia bellirica belonging to Combretaceae family. It has astringent taste and hot in potency hence reduces vitiated Kapha dosha. Triphala is an ayurvedic formulation which is known for its anti-cancerous properties.
A recent study states that triphala is a good radioprotective agent. It is useful in reducing the growth of cancerous tumours in the body. It possesses antineoplastic, radioprotective and chemoprotective effects. Bibhitaki fruit contains active principles like tannins, beta-sitosterol, gallic acid, chebulic acid, mannitol,glucose, galactose, etc.
Preparations:
- Half spoon of bibhitaki powder mixed with madhu and consumed daily increases immunity of an individual.
- Half spoon of triphala powder in a cup of hot water and some honey and drink. This drink increases immunity and can be given to cancer patients.
- Bibhitaki fruit powder is used to stop internal bleeding. Fruit powder should be consumed with cold water.
- Bibhitaki fruit powder 1 tsp mixed with sugar candy and honey is useful in disorders of throat and increased phlegm in throat.
